Solar gain is the increase of temperature in a building due to the effects of direct sunlight. If solar gain is not controlled during increased sun light periods, air conditioning will have to compensate for this gain thereby requiring the use of even more electricity.
Using blinds and shutters can reduces the effects of solar gain but fixed placed shutters / blinds means that less natural light enters a building at all times, meaning the amount of energy expelled on lighting is increased.
Using a KNX daylight sensor the sun can be tracked and information broadcast onto the system to automate blinds to move creating a balance between natural daylight and a reduction in solar gain and glare.
