Traditionally, emergency light testing was performed by maintenance personnel using a key switch to manually activate the light test. At the end of the test duration a visual inspection was made of each lamp to confirm it had not failed. This labour intensive process has now been simplified and superseded by the use of KNX and DALI solution.
Recent developments in DALI electronic control gear (ECG's) means KNX can automate this process allowing whole buildings to be automatically scheduled for an emergency light test and any failures in lamp or ECG are reported back to a "head-end", the Build Management System (BMS), documenting which fittings have failed and why.
There are currently 3 types of test are available. Functional test -- 30 second test to confirm the DALI ECG is operational Short duration test -- 1hr test with the ECG running on emergency supply Long duration test -- 3hr test with the ECG running on emergency supply
The data generated by the automatic emergency light test has the potential to be stored in a database to be reported on at a later date.
